Bergamot oil in aromatherapy
The psychological effects of bergamot oil
In aromatherapy, bergamot essential oil is used to overcome emotional lows, alleviate sadness, and reduce anxiety. Unlike most citrus scents, bergamot is considered highly calming and non-stimulating. It is often called the "lavender" of citrus oils because it contains similar components to lavender. Bergamot oil promotes cheerfulness, serenity, and positive thoughts. It can contribute to overall well-being.
The physical effects of bergamot oil
Bergamot oil has diverse antimicrobial properties and is described as anti-inflammatory, wound-healing, and regenerative. Bergamot oil is highly photosensitizing; when applying it to the skin, avoid contact with UV radiation for at least 12 hours (phototoxic). Generally, the low-furocoumarin version is recommended for skincare. Always refer to the dilution chart (0.5–1%).
