Natural hair care with rosemary
Rosemary oil for healthy and strong hair
March 20, 2025

Rosemary is not only versatile and popular in the kitchen, but also a proven natural remedy for hair care. Its essential oil is known for its circulation-boosting properties on the scalp, stimulating hair follicles and helping with dandruff and oily scalp.
We strongly advise against the trend of applying pure rosemary oil directly to the scalp – like all essential oils, it must be blended to ensure it's compatible with the skin. We'll show you how to safely use rosemary oil for healthy and strong hair.
Why is rosemary oil good for hair?
For hair care, the blood circulation-enhancing and antimicrobial properties of the cineole chemotype are particularly recommended. They have a positive effect on the scalp and hair growth.
There are different varieties, so-called chemotypes, of rosemary, which differ greatly in their composition:
- Rosemary chemotype cineole (high proportion of 1,8-cineole): promotes blood flow, antimicrobial, expectorant properties
- Rosemary chemotype camphor (high camphor content): muscle-relaxing, circulation-enhancing and pain-relieving properties for muscle tension and rheumatic complaints – due to the camphor content, use only with prior knowledge
- Rosemary chemotype verbenone (high verbenone content): milder, skin-friendly rosemary variant
Rosemary oil can be particularly helpful for the following hair problems:
- Hair loss and thinning hair: The blood circulation-enhancing properties stimulate hair growth and thus help to reduce hair loss.
- Dandruff and itchy scalp: Rosemary oil has antibacterial properties, soothes the scalp and can reduce dandruff.
- Oily hair: Rosemary regulates sebum production and ensures a fresh, healthy scalp.

Rosemary as a reliable aid for beautiful hair
Thanks to its many beneficial properties, rosemary essential oil ct. cineole is an excellent ingredient for hair care – whether you use a ready-made product or make your own. The most important thing is to follow these guidelines:
- Less is more: Do not use essential oil undiluted; use a dosage table to find the appropriate number of drops for your application.
- Limitations: DIY rosemary preparations are not suitable for children or people with chronic respiratory illnesses. The mildest option is rosemary ct. verbenone.
- Quality: Look for essential oils that are organic or organically wild-harvested, with full labeling (botanical name, plant part, origin, extraction method, 100% pure). Quality comes at a price – when buying, be sure to check the specified chemotype.
